Telecom Sales @ A Call Center
My journey into Special Education began when I joined a telecom call center as a sales representative. After four years of working in a miserable job with the mentality of taking one day at a time. I grew tired and bored of listening to customers complain, cursing me out at 8 am every morning and convincing them to buy a phone, TV, internet, and cellphone services. Some customers would call in because their service was out or because they were completely disatisfied with the services and they wanted some credits in their bill. My job was to sell them all services and make sure they felt satisfied by the end of the call. If you asked me to define exhaustion and stress, a position in a telecom call center in sales is it.
My Journey Begins
By the 5th year, I knew I needed to do something more fulfilling and that gave me the freedom and peace of mind I desired. It was difficult to leave my previous job, since it had great benefits, a base plus commission paycheck, a fun culture, and a fantastic team. However, it was not a place that brought happiness into my life. I’m not saying working in a call center is not fun, or it cannot be fulfilling for some people. It just was not the right fit for me.
So one day in sunny San Diego, I left my job and began my journey to become a teacher. Little did I know I would need to get several credentials and pass through hoops and hurdles to get into the classroom. I had no idea I would need a teaching credential, and pass many tests to get it. After leaving my job I needed a source of income, the closest thing to being a teacher and something I could do was substitute teaching. Click here to find out How to become a substitute teacher. Guest Teaching or substitute teaching is so big, that it requires its own page.
